Concert for the German YMCA London

Thursday October 22, 2026 at 7pm.
Please book your tickets here (tickets include a welcome drink!)

We are pleased to offer this cabaret evening to the German YMCA, founded in 1860 as one of the oldest YMCA's in London. Today the German YMCA is an international and inclusive organisation that provides cultural and leisure-time activities, as well as advice, support and help for German-speaking people, their international friends, and the local community.
Among those activities is a regular concert series at the Lancaster Hall Hotel. The charity also runs the Schubert Society of Britain, which offers master classes and events. Details about the musical activities can be found on the German YMCA website.
The history of German refugees and their musical legacies in Britain is of particular relevance to the German YMCA community, and we are pleased to be able to bring this music, insights into the lives of the composers and parts of our mobile exhibition about Emigre musicians from Nazi Europe. Much of the historical information and the music presented in the programme has been made accessible through my research at the Royal College of Music during the AHRC-funded project Music, Migration and Mobility – The Legacy of Migrant Musicians from Nazi Europe in Britain (2019-2023).

For further information about the composers please visit the online resource Music, Migration and Mobility on the RCM website, which presents oral history interviews, biographies, stories, storymaps and repertoire guides regarding Émigré musicians from Nazi Europe in Britain:
